Proper measurement and evaluation are more important than ever in justifying program effectiveness and costs. But, what should we be measuring? There has been a lack of guidance and standards in this area resulting in many organizations having to struggle to identify the right outcomes in measuring the impact of their population health management efforts.

The Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO) and Population Health Alliance (PHA) have recently published a guide with recommendations on a core set of metrics for the evaluation of employee health management programs. The guide focuses on six key measures which when looked at in total - they serve to summarize an overall Value of Investment. The six key measurement areas are: organizational support, health impact, productivity and performance, financial outcomes, participation, and satisfaction. The guide breaks down each measurement area into the key performance indicators, metrics, and methodologies needed for proper focus of program design, implementation and evaluation.

A copy of this unique and valuable guide can be obtained through this link: Program Measurement and Evaluation Guide; or by going directly to the HERO webpage, http://hero-health.org .
